Food Sovereignty Prize

co-hosted by US Food Sovereignty Alliance and Climate Justice Alliance

We’re thrilled to announce that the 2024 Food Sovereignty Prize will be co-hosted by US Food Sovereignty Alliance and Climate Justice Alliance.

What is the Food Sovereignty Prize?

The Food Sovereignty Prize is awarded annually to one domestic and one international organization that demonstrate outstanding commitment to food sovereignty, rural democratic control, responsible stewardship of our Earth, and a bold restructuring of the global food economy.

Founded in 2009 as a direct challenge to the mainstream World Food Prize—which emphasizes increased production through technology—the Food Sovereignty Prize celebrates real solutions led by those most impacted by the injustices of the global food system. By honoring those who are reclaiming their food systems, the Food Sovereignty Prize affirms the right of people to determine their own food and agricultural futures.

Food Sovereignty goes well beyond ensuring that people have enough food to meet their physical needs. It asserts that people
must
 reclaim
their power in the food system by rebuilding the relationships between people and the land, and between food providers and those
 who eat.
