Peoples’ Climate Week
To present real solutions to the climate crisis that end resource extraction and the sacrifice of the planet and the peoples’ wellbeing, equity, and justice, we, the grassroots, present the Peoples’ Climate Week in so-called New York on Lenape land from September 17-22, 2023, in relationship with local NYC environmental justice and climate justice communities.
The Peoples’ Climate Week Agenda represents community-driven models and solutions to the climate crisis, highlights the negative impacts of fossil fuel industry prolongment with unproven technologies like direct air carbon capture and storage, demonstrates Black & Indigenous unity and power across the environmental justice movement, analyzes the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act on our communities and its potential to resource the grassroots, and builds power around a Just Transition to a regenerative economy.
On the 75th Anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights and as we look ahead to continuing to strive for climate reparations at COP28, our agenda highlights the disconnect between the UN’s actions and their rhetoric.
Partners in the work include: Climate Justice Alliance, The Black Hive at M4BL, Indigenous Environmental Network, Grassroots Global Justice Alliance, Right to the City, Taproot Earth, Climate Critical, The Chisholm Legacy Project, The New School / Tishman Environment and Design Center, UPROSE, New York City Environmental Justice Alliance, Just Transition Alliance, DRUM (Desis Rising Up and Moving), and Pueblo Action Alliance.
Here is a non-comprehensive list representing the unified agenda of the People that will be updated periodically as new information emerges.
